This 1565 square metre south west facing sloping beach front property located in Somers on the Mornington Peninsula enjoys expansive views over Westernport Bay from Flinders, through The Nobbies to Cowes on Phillip Island. It was this location that the owners fell in love with when they purchased it 5 years ago. The property is to be used for their retirement get-away where they could have their large extended family with their grandchildren come and enjoy this special unique position. The property and existing dwelling had already gone through a makeover, however not being suitable to their needs, it was decided to renovate as there was no need for additional floor height and the roof line was quite low allowing neighbours to view over a non-changing roof height other than that it was a complete rebuild with the upper level containing a new spacious kitchen, lounge, dining, sitting and master bedroom with ensuite, a new large kitchen with direct access through retractable Bifolds serving the large entertaining balcony all facing the south west view with direct access via a stair to the pool. The roof was opened up to the north and a small courtyard added to bring the north light through into the home.
The balcony was positioned in front of the kitchen but to the side of the living room. This was to enable the living room window full unimpeded by a balustrade view. The balustrade then could be raised to give the balcony much needed wind protection. Complemented by a large open fire and timber floors finished in beautiful white helped give the home its simple platter for the owners to compliment with their colourful artwork and pop colours. The lower area contained three large bedrooms with ensuites, a main bathroom, grandchildren’s bunk room, a nursery for the babies and a play rumpus room. All the bedrooms have unrestricted views over the pool. As the pool was positioned on the south east view side of the home it had to be pushed away from the building and to the balcony side so as it maintained the north sun.
As the walk to the water and beach was very steep a boat house was added with retaining wall built in to allow the ground to be levelled up creating an easy walk path to the beach. The boat house has a kitchenette and toilet servicing a grass lawn play area and the beach also catering for those much needed beach toys. This home was finished off in soft whites with complementing natural timber to allow it its lovely relaxed beach feel.
